In the past few weeks, I have celebrated the birthdays of my wife, my youngest son, and a close friend of mine.
These "celebrations" were no different then the same ones I have participated in hundreds of times throughout my life. They were in essence, the times where all the same questions were asked - how are YOU going to celebrate your birthday, what are YOU going to do on your birthday, and the like. It has always been about the specific person and their sentiments about their birthday - and many times we hear - those personal sentiments towards a birthday are less then positive.
Well, here at THE GOOD THINGS, for the first time in MY life I looked at these birthdays different. The Birth Day of my wife, the Birth Day of my Son, and the Birth Day of close friends, is not a day for THEM to celebrate. IT IS A DAY FOR ME TO CELEBRATE!!!!!!
I had a perspective on BIRTH DAY that I had never had in my life. Had I ever thought about how important to me the BIRTH DAY of my wife, my partner since senior year of high school, really was.
How about the BIRTH DAY of my son? Is that day solely a day for him to celebrate? Is it not a day for me to celebrate? The BIRTH DAY's of our children are hands down one of the greatest days any of us will ever have! Never again will I only ask if he is excited for his birthday, how he feels on his birthday? The BIRTH DAYS of my sons from now on will get the exact consideration they deserve - as 2 of the greatest single days in MY LIFE.
How come a birthday celebration for a friend has always been FOR HIM, or FOR HER? In actuality, it is a day for US to celebrate.
Birthdays and birthday celebrations, taking the time out of all of the crazy schedules we all have, to celebrate the BIRTH DAY, the day that life began for the people that mean the most to us, and what an incredible impact that life has had on us, is and forever will be one of the really GOOD THINGS in my life - L' Chaim
